Watch once for the whole, then for a question

Begin by following the full performance. On a second viewing, choose something specific: how a rhythm is repeated, when the group moves together, or how one performer cues others. Step Afrika!’s description of stepping provides useful vocabulary for these observations without requiring you to copy an existing routine.

A clip is a source, not the entire story

Look for the title, performers’ own description, date, creator, and surrounding event information. An edited recap can select moments and change their order; it does not establish the full experience of a program or every participant. Use the STEP EDITION recap on the home page as a visual introduction, then return to the questions and sources that help explain what you noticed.

  • Describe what you see before evaluating it.
  • Notice sound and movement separately, then consider their relationship.
  • Respect the rights of performers and creators when sharing or reusing footage.
  • Make room for a written description, captions, and different ways to respond.
